Scotland’s first new town was built at pace through the 1950s and 60s, and a lot of that housing is now on its second or third owner. We carry out EICRs and landlord certificates across G74 and G75, and the town’s building history shows up in almost every report.

Plenty of East Kilbride homes were wired once when they were built and have only been patched since. Former council terraces in The Murray and Calderwood, semis in Westwood, later private estates out at Stewartfield. Many became rentals under right to buy, which brings them under the five-year inspection cycle that applies to every private tenancy in Scotland.
Age is not automatically a failure. That surprises people. An older installation can still test as satisfactory if it has been looked after, and the report exists to tell you honestly which side of the line your property sits on.

Not automatically. The report assesses safety for continued use, and an old board is recorded honestly with a recommendation where one is due. If an upgrade makes sense we will price it separately and explain why, with no pressure attached.
How long does an EICR take in a typical EK semi?
Usually a morning or an afternoon. It stretches when there are lots of circuits, poor access or previous alterations to untangle. We give you a realistic window when we book rather than a guess.
Can you do the smoke alarms at the same visit?
Yes, and it is worth doing. Scottish homes need interlinked smoke and heat alarms now, so checking or upgrading them while we are already on site saves a second call-out.
